Aftercare? What does that mean?
There is not much that is more sad than losing a beloved family pet - think about it...as pet lovers, how many times have you heard the phrase "My pets are like my kids..." Whether you live alone or have a family, the emotion and stress that immediately follow this event can often lead to decisions that may be regretful later. The term "aftercare" refers to the care taken for your pet when it has passed away, and the decisions regarding final resting for your pet.
Many people these days wish to provide a more dignified ending to their pets lives. When this event happens, you are usually only able to select only your local vet for this delicate service, and at a very minimum your time, your gas, your emotional expense...well it can lead to unnecessary sad times and several return visits. Heaven's Leash offers a variety of services to respectfully care for your pet's final care needs with dignity. There are several options available that fit most any budget.
All services include Heaven's Leash response to your phone call in the Greater Austin, TX area with respect and professionalism. We will ask you a few questions about your pet such as what kind of pet, your pet's name, and approximate weight. We will come to your home and remove the pet from your home with dignity and respectfully carry out your final care wishes. Our services lessen the stress of having to preserve your pet until you can take it to your vet's office, as well as providing immediate available time to spend with children or other loved ones affected by the loss. Elderly pet owners may have trouble with heavier dogs and we can be of help there as well.
If a pet dies at home in the evening or night, some people have been advised to "put them in the freezer:....or "if it's cool outside, just place them in a box in the garage". These certainly aren't the last images you want of your pet. You will then experience the emotional waves all over again when you must handle and transport your pet yourself to the vet's office for their services. If you call the City, they will tell you the following: "Solid Waste Services collects dead animals from the public rights of way and will collect a dead animal placed at the curb." We know that is also not what you need to hear at that moment, nor is it respectful to your pet. That scenario leads to your pet remains picked up at the curb and taken directly to the landfills.
While some people choose to bury their pet, apartment dwellers, renters and some land owners are not allowed this option for several reasons. At Heaven's Leash, customers who choose not to have their pet cremated can rest assured that their family pet will never be "placed at the curb". We will treat your pet with the utmost dignity and respect on their final journey.
If you have a favorite blanket or sheet that you'd like your pet carried in, we will assure that item stays with the pet. It will stay with him or her until the end, as will photographs, which are often requested to have included with cremation services.
We understand this is a sensitive event for you & your family, and we wish to be as un-intrusive as possible.
