About Heaven's Leash....

Heaven's Leash was founded in 2008 after owner Kenny Peters decided to dedicate his time to his love for pets full time, with special attention to Heaven's Leash.  The idea, however, was nothing new.

In 1997, Kenny lost his beloved "Booter", a wonderful solid black cat that was Kenny's best friend.  Kenny was 32;  Booter was 16 and had been with Kenny his whole life; that amount of time was half of Kenny's life at that time.  Losing this pet was traumatic and very emotional for Kenny, and the idea began to form for a compassionate service that could come to the home, take care of the final arrangements and provide some comfort in knowing that the remains were being well cared for.   Having had a good and caring veterinarian at the time, the arrangements were taken care of by the vet's office.

(booter giving kisses!)

The scenario repeated in 2001 with the loss of Slugger, a lovely cocker spaniel & border collie mix that had previously belonged to Kenny's mother.    Slugger had heart problems, and passed away at home unexpectedly on Memorial Day weekend.  Late on Saturday afternoon, the family was forced to deal with finding a place to take Slugger to have the cremation services provided - a task that was emotionally draining and upsetting.

(slugger passed out in his favorite spot!)

And a third time with his beloved 17 year old Smokey after a new medication had been administered for the first time - Smokey was found about 30 minutes after the pill had been given.  This was about 10:30 p.m. on a Thursday night, and the only option was to place Smokey in a box and put it in the garage where it was relatively cool - this following another suggestion to put her in the freezer!  The next day, the box had to be taken to the vet's office, and the ashes returned several weeks later.   The service was impersonal and again, very emotionally draining.

(smokey chillin' out!)

After the 3rd time of this happening, Kenny decided that there was a real need for a new & personalized service that could help provide comfort to the grieving pet owner as well as provide resources for support and other items.

Hence, "Heaven's Leash" was begun.

We hope that you'll bookmark the pages that you find useful and that you'll watch us grow over the years.

Hugs & Wags,

**We also lost Sheena to renal failure during this time, not at home, though.  Under the kind & loving care of Dr. Weaver with Hometime Animal Care in Pflugerville.  Dr Weaver was previously associated at Lakeline Animal Care and was the first vet we found in Austin when moving here in 2001.

We currently share our home with the following critters:

1)    Dakota

Three years old, gotten from the Humane Society at 6 weeks old, this is one of the smartest and funniest dogs I've ever known.  We are so happy that she's ours!   She likes to sit like she's a person.

2)     Fergie

Named after the singer, not the princess, Fergie is a little over a year old and hopefully full grown.  She's definitely one of the happiest dogs I've ever been around.  Her back end moves so much we call her "Wiggles"

3)    Azzie (short for Aslan)

Named after the famous and courageous lion from "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe", Azzie is about a year & 1/2 old and pretty cool.   Notice the color similarities between he & Smokey (above).  Fur isn't as long but he's growing into it.
